<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ocular iontophoresis device achieving greater delivery of active substances. <P>SOLUTION: The ocular iontophoresis device 1 for delivering medication to an eye includes: an outer sidewall having a proximal end and a distal end, the distal end of the outer sidewall engaging with the eye for delivery of the medication; an inner sidewall having a proximal end and a distal end, the distal end of the inner sidewall engaging with the eye for delivery of the medication, wherein the inner sidewall has a diameter less than a diameter of the outer sidewall; and an active electrode 10 connecting the proximal ends of the outer and inner sidewalls, wherein the active electrode includes: an electrically conductive layer; a protective layer coupled to the electrically conductive layer, the protective layer reacting significantly less than the conductive layer during iontophoretic delivery of the medication to the eye; and the outer sidewall, the inner sidewall, and the protective layer of the active electrode defining a reservoir 20 configured to store the medication. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
