PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion system capable of suppressing deterioration of catalyst while the purifying efficiency of the catalyst is enhanced sufficiently. SOLUTION: The combustion system includes an auxiliary combustion device 6 to work in two operating conditions selectively, a first operating condition in which the gas A containing oxygen for combustion is supplied to the combustion part 3 by a supply mechanism 4, the fuel E is combusted in the combustion part 3, and the auxiliary combustion exhaust gas G2 is exhausted from an auxiliary exhaust gas passage 5, and a second operating condition in which the supply mechanism 4 is actuated to exhausted the oxygen containing gas (A) from the auxiliary exhaust gas passage 5. The system further includes a catalyst temperature sensing means 8 to sense the temperature of a catalyst part 2, and a control device 9 which changes over the auxiliary combustion device 6 between the first operating condition when the temperature sensed by the sensing means 8 is lower than the prescribed temperature range and the second operating condition when the sensed temperature is higher than the prescribed temperature range.
