The method for fracture splitting a component (10) such as a bearing, comprises producing a notch (16) in the component along a circulating target separation line (12), and separating the component by application of force along the notch into two component halves (18, 20). The notch is produced by attaching a blind seam (14) welded by a laser or an electron beam along the target separation line. A seam depth of the blind seam is selected in dependence of a thickness of the component in the range of the target separation line, where the blind seam is removed by grinding and honing.
