Any single control mode is selected from a plurality of control modes that set a target value for a primary pulley revolution number (NIN), and are prioritised in a predetermined order. When the control mode has been altered, the target value for the primary pulley revolution number (NIN) is set so as to change from the target value set by a pre-alteration control mode, to the target value set by a post-alteration control mode, according to the control mode with has a higher priority out of the pre-alteration control mode and the post-alteration control mode. A stepless transmission is controlled so that the primary pulley revolution number (NIN) becomes the set target value.
