<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head for thermally-assisted recording that includes a semiconductor laser mounted so as not to increase the overall height of the head and prevent optical power variation due to wavelength fluctuation, and suppresses temperature increase of the mounted semiconductor laser. <P>SOLUTION: A semiconductor laser 30 is placed on a side surface different from surfaces on an inflow end side and a trailing side, of four side surfaces of a floating slider 5. An entrance 16 of a waveguide 3 is placed on the side surface of the floating slider 5, to thereby directly receive emitted light from the semiconductor laser to the waveguide. A curved line part or a reflective mirror is formed in the middle of the waveguide so that the light incident on the waveguide travels toward a near-field light generating element 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
