METHOD FOR CULTURING MICROORGANISM HAVING NITRATE RESPIRATION ABILITY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To culture microorganisms by positively using the ability of nitrate respiration of the microorganisms.

SOLUTION: The method for culturing microorganisms having the ability of nitrate respiration in which nitrite ions (NO2-) are generated using nitrate ions (NO3-) as the final electron acceptor comprises: promoting the microorganisms to carry out nitrate respiration by nitrate ions contained in the culture solution; making the culture solution be in contact with an electrode; giving electric potential to the electrode; and culturing the microorganisms while oxidizing the nitrite ions generated from nitrate respiration of the microorganisms.
