PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple compact inexpensive structure that can cool a light source lamp mounted to a carriage. SOLUTION: The image reader includes a first reading platen 3 that reads the image of a document placed on a device housing 1, a second reading platen 2 that reads the image of a traveling document, a reading carriage 6 movably disposed between both the platens, and a light source lamp 9 arranged on the carriage to irradiate light to the document on the first reading platen 3. Also, the reading carriage has a lamp storing part 9a that stores the light source lamp and a heat transmission member 14 that transfers heat from the lamp storage part. In addition, the device housing is provided with a heat radiation member 16. The heat transmission member 14 and the heat radiation member 16 are disposed at a position to make a surface contact with each other so as to be heat-conductive with each other when the carriage is positioned at the second platen 2.
