<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can restrain power consumption and also can reduce the time required for printing out after identity authentication. <P>SOLUTION: When a secure print instruction is received in a power saving mode, the CPU of the image forming apparatus drives the sensor of a fixing apparatus (S401) first. Thus, temperature determining processing of the fixing apparatus is performed (S403). At this time, a print engine or the like is not driven, and the power consumption is restrained. Thereafter, when a password is input and the identity of the user is authenticated with the password (S405 to S413), drive of the print engine or the like is started (S417). Fixing temperature is raised by turning on the heater of the fixing apparatus immediately after the identity of the user is authenticated (S419 to S421).
