PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a portable terminal by reducing the operation of an arithmetic operation means during pedometer application operation in the portable terminal. SOLUTION: The portable terminal 1 includes a number of step counting means 12 for counting the number of steps of a user; a pedometer application 13 having an active state for acquiring the number of steps counted by the number of steps counting means 12 and the inactive state for stopping the active state to repeat the active state and the inactive state; a storing means 111 for recording a number of steps target value which is the target value of the number of steps and the number of steps for each predetermined period acquired by the pedometer application; and a control means 11 for performing control for determining a monitoring object range for monitoring the number of steps for each predetermined period recorded in the storing means 111 near the number of steps target value, so as to shorten the time interval for switching the active state and the inactive state of the pedometer application 13, when the number of steps acquired by the pedometer application 13 goes into the monitoring object range.
