PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem, wherein in prior art, a photography area for still image photography different from a photography area for motion image photography cannot be confirmed during motion image photography. SOLUTION: An electronic camera includes an imaging unit for capturing a subject image and outputting an image signal; an imaging control unit which causes the imaging unit to perform imaging continuously at predetermined time intervals, designates a designation area to read an image signal from the imaging unit, and reads the image signal in the designation area from the imaging unit; a display unit for displaying an image continuously at predetermined time intervals, based on the image signal in the designation area read out by the imaging control unit; and an operating unit for receiving a photographic angle-of-view confirmation instruction from a user. While the operating unit is not operated, the imaging control unit designates a first area as the designation area; and when the operating unit is operated, the imaging control unit designates a second area as the designation area.
