PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a playback apparatus capable of improving user operability, when displaying an object image while superimposing it on video data. SOLUTION: A playback apparatus 1A includes a stream separator 12 for separating at least a video stream and graphics data from a digital stream; a video decoder 14 for decoding the video stream; a graphics decoder 15 for decoding the graphics data for producing data of a first object image to be superimposed with video data, and for producing object information containing attribute information of the first object image; an information analyzer 18 for analyzing the object information; an image generator 21 for generating data of a second object image having an attribute different from that of the first object image, on the basis of a result of analysis by the information analyzer 18; and an image superimposing unit 22 for superimposing the data of the second object image on the video data.
