PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the size of an original without performing a lid body moving operation or the like even if the size of the original on an original platen is not detected in conjunction with the operation of a lid body in the start of power supply. SOLUTION: Immediately after turning on a main power switch or recovery from a power saving mode, when detection according to a first detection method for the size of an original to be performed in conjunction with the operation of an opening/closing cover is not performed (step S18:N), it is determined whether it is appropriate to detect the size of the original according to the first detection method by a determination table in accordance with the state of the opening/closing cover before and after pressing a start button (step S19).
