<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for vehicles wherein in a low-temperature range in which the maximum chargeable power of a secondary battery is reduced, the discharging of the secondary battery is more appropriately limited to suppress reduction in the remaining capacity of the secondary battery and maintain traveling performance. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle control method includes the following steps. When the battery temperature Tb of a battery 50 is equal to or lower than a predetermined temperature Tbref and ECO mode is selected by the driver, an output limit Woutf for control is set based on the state of the battery 50 so that the following is implemented (Steps S110, S120 and S240): the output limit Woutf for control as discharge permissible power, which is power permissible to the discharging of the battery 50, is lower as compared with cases where the battery temperature Tb of the battery 50 is equal to or lower than the predetermined temperature Tbref and ECO mode is not selected by the driver.
