<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosensitive recording material having excellent light resistance, water resistance and high whiteness and to provide an image recording method using the thermosensitive recording material. <P>SOLUTION: The thermosensitive recording material 1 includes a support 2 and further at least one undercoat layer 3, a thermosensitive coloring layer 4 which comes into contact with the undercoat layer and includes a leuco dye and a developer and at least one protective layer including a water-soluble resin and a fluorescent whitening agent in this order on the support.
