Provided is a microwave heating apparatus, wherein a heating chamber (8) has installed therein a mounting table (9, 14) comprising a horizontal mounting face upon which an object (10) to be heated is to be mounted; and a plurality of feeding units (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d, 16) that are arranged at the wall faces of the heating chamber, and feed microwave power to the heating chamber. The microwave heating apparatus is configured so that the state in which the object to be heated is arranged on the mounting table is detected, by moving the position, relative to the object to be heated, of a straight line connecting the two feeding units with a movement mechanism unit (13), and detecting the phase difference between microwave power of the two feeding units whereby reflection power to be returned to the two feeding units from the heating chamber will become minimum.
