摘要 A tower or chamber for reactions between liquids and gases is formed of an exterior framework from which are suspended sheets of chemically resistant heat-weldable thermoplastic synthetic resinous materials which sheets are welded together at their longitudinal and transverse <PICT:0722320/III/1> edges to form a closed curtain within the framework, the curtain being secured longitudinally closely against the framework members by means of stirrup-like pieces made of the same or similar chemically resistant material, welded to the curtains and attached to the framework. The invention is particularly applicable to towers for the production of sulphuric acids, as illustrated in Fig. 3. The framework is made up of vertical members M carrying at their upper portion a horizontal frame C to the inside of which is fastened a wooden beam T. From this beam sheets of the synthetic resinous material are secured laterally by stirrups 2 to vertical members 3 which are placed at intervals between the main uprights M. Further lateral support is provided by wooden posts 5 supported on horizontal cross beams 6 which, in turn, are secured to the main upright M. The roof of the reaction chamber 7 is formed of the same material as the walls and is welded thereto; stirrups 8 secure the roof 7 to horizontal supporting members S. Reagent liquid, in this case sulphuric acid, is fed to the reaction chambers by pipes U which may be made of the same synthetic resin. The base of the tower rests on concrete P with a layer F of lead. A vat G made of any suitable chemically resistant material is placed at the bottom of the tower and secured to the synthetic resin wall.
