Polymers and copolymers of vinyl halides are stabilized against discoloration on heating by the addition of a compound having the general formula (RS)4-xSn(R1)x in which x has a value of 0, 1, 2 or 3 and in which R and R1 are organic radicals, preferred compounds being those in which x = 0 and R is p-methyl-phenyl, cetyl, lauryl or ethyl or in which R is lauryl and R1 is butyl. The polymer may be polyvinyl chloride, or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, methyl methacrylate, vinylidene chloride, dimethyl or diethyl maleate or fumarate, or ethyl acrylate. The composition may also contain dibutyl sebacate as plasticizer. |
