A floating container 5 floats in a main reservoir 3 which is separated from a rising and falling body 2 of water, eg a tidal body, by a barrier 4. Water is siphoned from the floating container 5 so that it rises as a consequence of buoyancy. When a surface of the tidal body of water 2 is higher than that in the floating container 5 the floating container 5 is replenished and falls as a consequence of its reduced buoyancy. A piston and cylinder arrangement 10, 11 may be reciprocated by means of a physical connection, eg lever 12, so as to pressurize fluid. The pressurized fluid may drive a turbine 23 or reverse osmosis equipment (26, fig.5) producing potable water, or may be used to liquefy a gas, eg hydrogen, or to liquefy petroleum gas. The lever may be replaced by one or more arms (41, figs.8,9; 54a, 54b, fig.10) extending from the floating container and attached to respective piston shaft(s) which extend downwardly. In a modification, fig.7, the lever drives a dynamo 31 to produce electricity.
|
