Myeloperoxidase as a target in atrial fibrillation

The present invention relates to the field of cardiovascular diseases, in particular to diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation. The invention provides inhibitors of expression and/or activity of myeloperoxidase for treatment of atrial fibrillation as well as kits and methods for diagnosing susceptibility to atrial fibrillation in a subject and for identifying subjects amenable to treatment of atrial fibrillation with an inhibitor of myeloperoxidase. The invention further relates to a method for identifying a compound for treatment of atrial fibrillation, and use of such an inhibitor for the preparation of a medicament for treatment of atrial fibrillation.
