Polyamide textile material is bleached with an alkali metal or alkaline-earth metal hypochlorite solution and is then treated with a reducing agent at a temperature above 80 DEG C. The hypochlorite solution may be at a pH of 8-10 or 3-4 and the reducing agent may be a solution of sodium hydrosulphite, sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate, zinc formaldehyde sulphoxylate, a bisulphite, a sulphite or a thiosulphate. A sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate solution at 90-95 DEG C. may be used. |
