PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pour point depressant with improved pour point depressant property for such as a fuel oil and a lubrication oil. SOLUTION: The pour point depressant for a hydrocarbon oil consists of a vinyl polymer (A) having an essential structure monomer (a) shown by the formula (1) wherein R<SP>2</SP>preferably represents a branched chain alkyl group of the formula (2). In formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>represents a hydrogen atom or methyl group, X represents a 2-4C alkylene group, n represents an integer of 1-20, R<SP>2</SP>represents a 16-44C branched chain alkyl group.
