Composition comprises: at least one dibenzoylmethane derivative (II); and at least one hydrophilic or water-soluble merocyanine UV filter having structure (I) and (II) or one of its isomeric forms (E,E-, E,Z- or Z,Z-) in a medium of at least one UV filter system. Composition comprises: at least one dibenzoylmethane derivative (II); and at least one hydrophilic or water-soluble merocyanine UV filter having structure of formula ([R1-NR2-CH=CH-CH=CR3-R4] n) (I) and (II) or one of its isomeric forms (E,E-, E,Z- or Z,Z-) in a medium of at least one UV filter system. Either R1, R2 : H, 1-22C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl (optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl), where R1 and R2 contains an alkyl sulfonate in its acid or salt form or 4 hydroxy groups; or NR1R2 : cycle containing -(CH 2) m- group (optionally interrupted by one or more -O-, -S- or -NH-); or R1 can form with the alpha carbon to the nitrogen : cycle containing -(CH 2) m- group (optionally interrupted by one or more -O-, -S- or -NH-); R3 : carboxyl group, -COOR5, -CONHR5, -COR5, -CONR5R1, -CN or SO 2R5; or R4 : carboxyl group, -COOR6, -CONHR6, -COR6, -CONR6R2, -CN or SO 2R6; R5, R6 : 1-22C alkyl or 3-8C cycloalkyl (optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl), where R5 and R6 optionally contains one alkyl sulfonate group in its acid or salt form or 4 hydroxy groups; Z : -(CH 2) roptionally interrupted by -O-, -S- or -NR7-, and/or optionally substituted with one or two 1-6C alkyl; R7 : 1-5C alkyl optionally containing an alkyl sulfonate in its acid or salt form or 4 hydroxy groups; n : 1-2; m : 1-7; l : 1-4, where at least one or two of R1, R2, R5, R6 and R7 contains either an alkyl sulfonate in its acid or salt form or 1-4 hydroxyl groups. Provided that: (i) when n is 2, R1, R5 or R6 is an alkyl diradical, or R1 and R2 together with two nitrogen atoms form a divalent cyclic -(CH 2) m-; (ii) R1 and R2 are not simultaneously hydrogen; and (iii) when R3 is CN, then at least one of R1, R2 or R6 must contain a alkyl sulfonate group in its acid or salt form. An independent claim is included for a method for improving chemical stability of at least one dibenzoylmethane derivative against UV radiation, where (I) is in combination with (II).
