PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus and a coating method, which are effective for dissolving a streak by quickly and safely removing foreign matter in a continuously operating state regardless of the length of experiences of an operator without moving back a coating head. SOLUTION: The coating apparatus applies coating liquid supplied from the coating head onto a film conveyed by a rotating coating roll. The coating apparatus includes a sheet for blade cleaning to be inserted into a gap between the film to be conveyed and a blade edge of the coating head and a slit-like sheet supply tool for supplying the sheet from behind the coating head.
