PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for use in tire treads having high grip performance and superior wear resistance, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the composition. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for use in tire treads includes a rubber component having from 40 to 80 parts by mass of natural rubber and from 20 to 60 parts by mass of diene rubber (other than the natural rubber) and, includes based on 100 parts by mass of the rubber component: from 80 to 150 parts by mass of carbon black having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of from 250 to 450 m<SP>2</SP>/g; and from 30 to 80 parts by mass of a resin compounded in the rubber component.
