PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rotation sensor capable of size reduction, while improving the detection accuracy of rotation angle. SOLUTION: The rotation sensor includes a sensor chip 5, having a magnetoresistive element region E1 where magnetoresistive elements R1-R8 are disposed so as to show the phase difference between output signals of the respective magnetoresistive elements and a Hall element region E2, where Hall elements H1 and H2 are disposed to show the phase difference between output signals of the respective Hall elements, wherein additionally, the magnetoresistive element region and the Hall element region overlap, at least in section; a comparison section 53 for showing results of comparing respective output levels of the respective Hall elements with a threshold level; an angle calculation section 60 for calculating an operation angleϕ, corresponding to a relative rotation angleθ, by using the output signals from the respective magnetoresistive elements; and an output section 70 for comparing the calculated angle with a threshold angle and outputting a signal corresponding to the relative rotation angle, by using the comparison results and the comparison results of the comparison section 53.
