In the disclosed biomass hydrothermal decomposition device, a solid biomass feedstock (11) is supplied from one side of a main device (42) and hot compressed water (15) is supplied from the other side, bringing the two in contact with each other head on and hydrothermally decomposing the biomass feedstock (11). While hot-water-soluble components are dissolved in the hot water and the hot compressed water is discharged to the outside from the one side of the main device (42) as hot-water drainage (16), biomass solids (17) are discharged to the outside from the other side of the main device. The disclosed biomass hydrothermal decomposition device has: an internal-temperature cooling means that rapidly reduces the temperature after hydrothermal decomposition has continued for a prescribed amount of time; temperature measurement units (T1 to T8) that measure the internal temperature; and a control device (100) that, on the basis of temperature measurement results from the temperature measurement units (T1 to T8), brings the internal temperature to a prescribed cool temperature using the internal-temperature cooling means.
