<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dye-sensitized solar cell having improved optical absorption and photoelectric conversion characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: In the dye-sensitized solar cell, a dye supporting metal oxide electrode includes a sensitizing dye represented by general formula (1). In the formula (1), R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen atoms, terminal aryl groups, terminal alkyl groups, or terminal alkoxy groups, at least one of the R1 and R2 is the terminal aryl group, terminal alkyl group, or terminal alkoxy group, the R1 and R2 can be bonded to each other to form a ring.
