PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method by which high image quality can be obtained by correcting the positional displacement between images formed by a light scanning device and an array light source device. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a plurality of image carriers 9, a light scanning device 10 and an array light source device 20 irradiating light in a main scanning direction and a sub-scanning direction and forming an electrostatic latent image on the surfaces of the image carriers 9, a developing means 32 developing the electrostatic latent image and forming a toner image, a transferring means 37 transferring the toner image to on recording medium, a fixing means 38 fixing the toner image transferred onto the recording medium, and a correcting means correcting the positions of the toner image on the transferring surface, the toner images include the toner image A formed using the light scanning device 10, the toner image B formed using the array light source device 20, the correcting means corrects the positional difference of the position of the toner image A and the position of the toner image B and corrects the position of the electrostatic latent image corresponding to the toner image A based on the toner image B for the positional difference in the main scanning direction.
