<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To know an electric charge in real time at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: A handy terminal 1 for meter reading is a terminal which is carried by a meter reader on the occasion of meter reading work to be performed once a month, and has functions of storing the latest data on contract information of customers, unit charges, and an approximate charge calculation program, and transmitting storing data to a meter 2 with operation of the meter reader used as a trigger. The meter 2 which is installed at some place around a customer's house to measure the amount of electric power used in the customer's house, has a function of receiving the contract information of the customer, unit charges, and approximate charge calculation program from the handy terminal 1 for meter reading, and of updating a difference from each data held previously and being kept, a function of storing an indication number on the occasion of meter reading as a last-time indication number until next meter reading is performed, and a function of switching display and non-display of an approximate charge by the use of a password or the like.
