PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a space-saving inexpensive waterproof rolling bearing unit for supporting a sensor-provided wheel, which prevents invasion of fine muddy water or dust from the clearance between a cover of an encoder and a sensor. SOLUTION: The bearing unit for supporting a wheel with a sensor includes: a stationary wheel; a rotating wheel; a rolling element; an encoder attached to the rotating wheel; a cover fixed to the stationary wheel to cover the encoder; a window hole facing the encoder through the cover; and a sensor inserted in the window hole and detecting a signal of the encoder. The sensor includes: a detection part body formed with a width dimension bigger than a hole dimension of the window hole of the cover and arranged on the counter-encoder side of the cover; and a sensor element which is formed with a width dimension smaller than the hole dimension to project from the detection part body and is inserted from the window hole to face the encoder. A labyrinth space is formed between the sensor element and the window hole of the cover and between the detection part body and the counter-encoder face side of the cover.
