Disclosed is an organic electroluminescent element having higher light emitting efficiency. The organic electroluminescent element is provided with: a transparent substrate; a transparent electrode, which is provided on the transparent substrate; and an organic light emitting layer, which is provided on the transparent electrode. The transparent electrode is provided with a matrix resin, a metal nano-wire, and particles for controlling refractive index, said metal nano-wire and particles being contained in the matrix resin. The refractive index (n1) of the transparent substrate, the refractive index (n2) of the transparent electrode, and the refractive index (n3) of the organic light emitting layer satisfy the following inequalities: n1=n2=n3 and n3-n1=0.3.
