The method involves arranging a set of knitting locks (S1, S2) of a flat knitting machine at a carriage. Two knitting regions are arranged one behind other at a knitted fabric along knitting direction, where the knitting regions are knitted by respective separate thread guides (F1, F2). Loop formation operation and cape operation are performed by the knitting locks in a slide stroke. Lock parts ate adjusted between the loop formation and cape operations of the knitting locks. An adjustment of the thread guides is performed in a work position or resting position. An independent claim is also included for a flat knitting machine to execute a method for manufacturing a knitted fabric.
