In a first example of a conventional optical waveguide device (20), there is a large separation (L8) between the tip (24) of a core (23) and a light-receiving surface of a photodiode (26), causing light (25) exiting the core (23) to sometimes enter a neighboring photodiode (26). In a second example of a conventional optical waveguide device (30), the separation (L9) between the tip (33) of a core (31) and a light-receiving surface of a photodiode (32) is reduced, which introduces the possibility that the tip (33) of the core (31) could become exposed out from under an overclad layer (36). The disclosed optical waveguide device (10) includes: an optical waveguide (11) that has a plurality of cores (13), with light (15) being emitted from the tip (14) of each; and a light-receiving element (12) that has a plurality of photodiodes (16) that receive the light (15) from the optical waveguide. The spacing (L1) between the cores (13) is greater than the spacing (L2) between the photodiodes (16). For each core (13), there is a photodiode (16) on which only the light (15) from that core (13) is incident.
|
