PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device which can continue transmission even when a failure occurs in a detection circuit for monitoring transmission power, and to provide a method for controlling the portable terminal device. SOLUTION: The portable terminal device includes an amplifying part 40, the detection circuit 50 and a control part 60. The amplifying part amplifies a transmission signal ST. The detection circuit 50 outputs a detection signal Sref corresponding to the power value of the amplified transmission signal ST. The control part 60 performs feedback control of the amplification of the transmission signal ST by the amplifying part 40 in accordance with the transmission signal Sref.
