PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably prevent external scattering of deposits or the like of a grinding wheel with a simple and inexpensive constitution, and executing work such as dimension measurement of a workpiece while ensuring a wide working space. SOLUTION: A grinding device includes a spindle having a chuck 18 for holding a workpiece 20, a grinding head 40, head moving means of drive motors 34, 38 or the like for moving the grinding head 40 in X-axis and Z-axis directions, and a grinding wheel cover 60 for covering a grinding wheel 48 when attaching/detaching the workpiece. The grinding wheel cover 60 is arranged in its movable area at the position deviated from the axis of the spindle in X-axis direction, and has a shape which is opened in Z-axis direction so that the grinding wheel 48 is inserted as the grinding head 40 is moved in Z-axis direction to cover the grinding wheel 48 to be inserted in this opening from the outer side in the radial direction over its entire circumference, and to cover it from its fore end side.
