PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt switch mechanism that allows a rotating brush to rotate and to stop according to an inclination movement of a vacuum body with simple structure and that keeps a cost low and improves reliability. SOLUTION: An upright type vacuum cleaner includes: the rotating brush; a drive pulley rotating integrally with the rotating brush; an idling pulley supported rotatably and independently of a rotation of the rotating brush; a belt connecting the drive pulley or the idling pulley with a drive shaft of an electric blower; a push body including: the belt switch mechanism switching a belt connection to the drive pulley and the idling pulley through a switching lever and guiding the belt to the idling pulley by pushing the switch lever to an inclination supporting part of the vacuum cleaner body when the vacuum cleaner body stands in a substantially upright position; and a biasing unit biasing the switch lever to a drive pulley side.
