The invention relates to a solid compacted product for water purification, comprising: at least a first layer including at least one flocculation system, and at least a second layer including at least one disinfectant that releases active chlorine on contact with water. The invention is characterised in that: the flocculation system comprises at least one polyol having a molecular weight less than or equal to 10000 g/mol and at least one densification agent comprising a composition of water-insoluble particles which are chemically inactive in relation to the active chlorine and which have a particle size such that 80% of the mass of the densification agent is formed by particles having an average size of between 5µm and 80 µm. The invention also relates to the method for preparing one such product and to a method for purifying a volume of water.
