In order to minimize a variation in the concentration of brewed coffee, a coffee maker comprises: a holder for holding a filter on which a coffee pod is placed; an adapter capable of pressing on the coffee pod; and a piston having a liquid flow path formed therein, and the coffee maker is configured so that, when the piston moves from the bottom dead center to the top dead center, the piston engages with the adapter and moves the adapter to a non-contact position at which the adapter is not in contact with the coffee pod, and so that, when the piston moves from the top dead center to the bottom dead center, the adapter which is located at the non-contact position moves to a contact position at which the adapter is in contact with the coffee pod, then the engagement between the piston and the adapter is disengaged, and after that the adapter which is located at the contact position presses on the coffee pod by means of the pressure of liquid supplied through the liquid flow path.
