PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing carbon powder for a lithium secondary battery negative electrode which is superior in cycle characteristics and rapid charge/discharge characteristics with high capacity, provide the carbon material for the lithium secondary battery negative electrode which is superior in the cycle characteristics and the rapid charge/discharge characteristics with high capacity, provide the negative electrode for the lithium secondary battery which is superior in adhesiveness between a current collector and a negative electrode mixture, the cycle characteristics, and the rapid charge/discharge characteristics with high capacity, and provide the lithium secondary battery which is superior in the cycle characteristics and the rapid charge/discharge characteristics with high capacity. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the carbon powder for the lithium secondary battery negative electrode in which the carbon powder is subjected to the isotropic pressurizing treatment, the carbon powder for the lithium secondary battery negative electrode obtained by the method, the carbon powder prepared by the method or the negative electrode for the lithium secondary battery containing the carbon powder, and the lithium secondary battery having this negative electrode and a positive electrode containing lithium compound are provided.
