PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article counting device that makes it possible to count the number of sheet pieces separated from each part of a sheet-shaped article, thus facilitating confirmation of the number of stock, regarding a device for storing different kinds of articles in different drawers for management on the spot. SOLUTION: The article counting device includes: an insulating base material 20; a plurality of pairs of base electrodes 22 formed on the base material 20 to correspond to a plurality of sheet pieces of an article 25 having the shape of a sheet assembly; an insulating sheet member 21 that moves toward and away from the surface of the base material 20 having the pairs of base electrodes 22 formed thereon; a plurality of sheet contacts 24 provided on the surface of the sheet member 21 opposite to the base material to correspond to the plurality of pairs of base electrodes 22, for establishing an electrical connection between one and the other of each pair of base electrodes 22; and a counting control unit 13 for counting the number of sheet pieces separated from the article 25, according to whether or not there is an electrical connection between each pair of base electrodes 22 under a condition where the article 25 is sandwiched between the sheet contacts 24 and each pair of base electrodes 22.
