PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic shock absorber, preventing complicatedness in structure and increase in length thereof and having high reliability. SOLUTION: This electromagnetic shock absorber includes: an outer tube 2; a hollow rod 3 penetrating the outer tube 2; a field 4 housed in the hollow rod 3; a stator 5 held in the outer tube 2 and opposite to the field 4; a pair of slide rings 6, 7 held in the outer tube 2 and slidably journaling the outer periphery of the hollow rod 3 to guide the axial relative movement of the hollow rod 3 to the outer tube 2; a cylinder 8 connected to one of the outer tube 2 and the hollow rod 3; and a damper rod 9 movably inserted in the cylinder 8 and connected to the other of the outer tube 2 and the hollow rod 3, and further includes: a fluid pressure damper D for exhibiting the damping force for restraining the relative movement to the axial relative movement of the cylinder 8 and the damper rod 9; and a spring 10 interposed between the outer tube 2 and the hollow rod 3.
