PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a carbon fiber-reinforced polypropylene resin composition that is lightweight and excellent in strength and rigidity, and the resin composition. SOLUTION: The method for producing a carbon fiber-reinforced polypropylene resin composition includes the steps of: performing melt kneading of a polypropylene resin (A) having an acid value of 0.2-5.0 mgKOH/g; and providing carbon fibers (B) having a fiber length of 2-20 mm to the polypropylene resin (A) in a molten state so that 10-45 mass% of the carbon fibers (B) are included in the resin composition and performing kneading.
