The method involves aligning a drilling and milling tool such that a cutting edge of a cutter and a middle axis of the drilling and milling tool lie in an optical axis of a microscope (10). The microscope and/or the drilling and milling tool is displaced vertical to the optical axis of the microscope such that a chip surface lies in the optical axis. An operator controls adjustable processes by seeing through an eyepiece of the microscope. A rotational angle difference between a starting position and an end position of the drilling and milling tool is measured.
