PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for map display which can ensure the visibility of a map on the occasion of displaying congestion information. SOLUTION: A congestion level determining means determines the congestion level for each area, based on the congestion information, in the map divided by a plurality of areas having prescribed sizes. A display-mode deciding means decides the display mode of the map of each area, according to the determined congestion level, and a display control means displays the map of each area in accordance with the decided display mode. In other words, the display mode of the map is changed for each area according to the congestion level. By making the device for map display constituted thus, the information showing the occurrence of congestion is displayed by the area differently from conventional types for displaying a congested line by the link, and thereby, the visibility of the map can be ensured.
