PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer printing method which enables reduction of printing deviations also when printing is performed by layering a printing layer. SOLUTION: An intermediate transfer film 15 is pressed in contact with an outer peripheral surface 16a of a platen roll 16 in a process of pressing a thermal head 14 in an unheated state to the intermediate transfer film 15. A gap between the rear surface side of the intermediate transfer film 15 and the outer peripheral surface 16a can be reduced accordingly. The intermediate transfer film 15 is correctly positioned following a curved cylindrical shape of the outer peripheral surface 16a of the platen roll 16. Hence a position accuracy of thermal transfer printing to a print face 15a of the intermediate transfer film 15 by a thermal transfer ink can be improved. The printing layer composed of drawings of the intermediate transfer film 15 is directly transferred and printed as a printing design part on an object to be printed such as a dial plate.
