PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile apparatus and a fault detection program which can locate faults in facsimile communication in more detail. SOLUTION: The facsimile apparatus transmits a selection signal based on a dial number from the facsimile apparatus to a communication destination of the dial number, and catches a communication condition with the communication destination designated by the dial number, and detects T1 time-out. When a voltage of a communication line is measured and a certain amount of voltage cannot be measured at this point, the facsimile apparatus detects a failure in circuit connection. When a certain amount of voltage cannot be measured, the facsimile apparatus detects that communication with a communication destination cannot be established for any reason other than the failure in circuit connection.
