PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera capable of detecting that a lens barrier similar to one which opens and closes, in conjunction with the forward movement of a lens has opened under the situation where it should be closed, and informing a user. SOLUTION: The digital camera equipped with a lens barrier mechanism that is driven to open and close, in conjunction with the forward and backward movement of a photographic lens barrel comprises a closing state detection means for detecting the closing state of the lens barrier mechanism by a light-receiving amount of an image sensor, a warning means, and a shake detection sensor for detecting a shake. When the movement of the digital camera is detected by the shake detection means, in a state where the lens barrier mechanism should be closed, the image sensor is made to operate to determine the closing state of the lens barrier mechanism from its output; and when the closing state has been determined as being abnormal, a warning is issued by the warning means.
