A door 1 which is opened by lifting up its lower edge, such as by means of a handle 15, and pushing the door to an overhead horizontal position along tracks 2 mounted within a garage or like building, has at least one lever 9 pivoted at 10 intermediate its length to a doorpost and pivoted at 13 to the door 1 near its lower edge, the lever 9 carrying d counterweight 14 at its free end to assist or effect the opening of the door. A pair of levers 9 may be provided, one at each side of the door 1, and each is of angle iron so that in the closed position of the door, each lever snugly fits about the corresponding edge thereof. The levers are pivoted at 10 to angle iron mounting members 11 which are bolted to the door posts 12, the upper ends of members 11 supporting the forward ends of tracks 2. Further support for the tracks is provided by hangers 7 on roof beams 6. The upper edge of the door has rollers or wheels 3 to engage the tracks 2, the latter having end stops 16 to prevent disengagement. The counterweight 14 may be a concrete block or slab and the handle 15 may operate a bolt. In a modification the mounting member 11 consists of a plate bolted to the door post 12. |
