<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a power converting apparatus wherein the possibility of the occurrence of internal failure is reduced and efficient operation is enabled. <P>SOLUTION: The power converting apparatus includes a first failure detection unit that determines the presence or absence of failure with respect to a first switching element, a first relay, a second switching element, and a second relay in a first step-down circuit and a first protection circuit when the power converting apparatus is in a standby state. This determination is carried out based on a combination of on/off control on the first switching element and the second switching element and opening/closing control on the first relay and the second relay in the first step-down circuit and the first protection circuit and a comparison of an output current value of a first direct-current power supply detected by a first current detection unit with a predetermined current value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
