PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device for vehicles, capable of inhibiting a sense of congruity given to a vehicle user by not performing an initial display process when returning from an idle stop function. SOLUTION: An arithmetic section 3 is provided with a memory part 2 storing a flag (information) for discriminating a first state which is an engine stop state by the idle stop function and a second state which is an engine stop state by conditions other than at least the idle stop function, performs a determining process based on the flag stored in the memory part 2 at start of an engine as to whether or not the start of the engine is returning operation from the first state, and performs control for prohibiting the initial display process by a display part 1 when determining that the engine start is the returning operation from the first state and for performing the initial display process by the display part 1 when determining that the engine start is not the returning operation from the first state.
